No. 9
Technical data :
Total length : 257 mm
Blade length : 203 mm
Muzzlering : 15 mm
Was used on : No. 4, Sten SMG
General information :
Just like its predecessors, the No. 4 en No. 7, the full steel No. 9 bayonet is of the socket type. Although the form of the blade makes it a practical bayonet, the lack of a handle makes it unsuitable for use as a fighting knife.
As the No. 9 was developed for use on the SMLE No. 4 rifle, this bayonet can be fitted on the entrenching tool as well, just like the No. 4.
The high production figures make the No. 9 a relatively cheap and easy to find bayonet. South-African models, with their shorter blade without fuller or Bowie-tip, are rarer but exact production figures are unknown.
